I caught up with John Pauler from Maven Analytics for a conversation about the current employment market for financial modellers and data analysts.
In some ways I believe there are obvious similarities in terms of the skills required and opportunities for progression available for both camps.
However, there are clear differences as well, and I couldn't have asked for a better person to talk through all of this with than John.
What is clear from our conversation is how important it is to be more than just a number cruncher. You must be able to step back and see the bigger picture on a project. As the financial modeller or data analyst you are often the first person to see the insights from your work, and it's important to be able to effectively share those insights with your stakeholders.
We're huge fans of Maven and the team working there. They have world-class training content, and they're just a great bunch to learn from.
