Preparing for the February 2025 AFM exam
I will be sitting the FMI Advanced Financial Modeler exam in February 2025. In this series, I share my thoughts and learnings as I prepare for the exam.

Here is my latest weekly update with ten weeks to go to the AFM exam.
What I covered last week
Last week I was supposed to move on to working capital. Note the word "supposed" in that last sentence!
What actually happened was I ended up being very busy with work and didn't progress my learning at all.
But heh, life happens, and I'm currently still a little ahead of plan, so no major drama. I do need to make sure I focus this week though, especially with Christmas next week.
On a positive note, what I did manage to progress was my micro-automation toolkit for the exam.
Micro-automations for the AFM Exam
As I mentioned in a previous post (week 2) I plan to use OA Robot to manage my AFM micro-automations for the exam.
I registered for the beta test a couple of weeks ago and was incredibly fortunate to have a demo call with the founder Erik Ohem.
The demo blew me away. OA Robot is going to be a true "game changer" for how people work in Excel. I appreciate that this is a much-overused phrase these days, but in the case of OA Robot is is absolutely justified.
It's fair to say that I left the call a little overexcited, my mind spinning with the opportunities for using this new tool in my modelling.
The first application that came to mind was my toolkit for the AFM exam, so I made a start on that right away. Giles and I are currently putting the final touches to a FMI AFM Collection for OA Robot. The toolkit will be publically available for free and will provide users with the formatting tools they need for the AFM exam.
Week 4 - 9 weeks to go
Despite my lack of progress this week I am still ahead of my original plan so will focus on Working Capital and Tax this week.
I'll also be finalising the work on my FMI AFM Collection for OA Robot. Which is a bit more exciting than Working Capital and Tax!
My plan
Below was my initial plan by topic areas.
